This past Wednesday my kids were being crazy. Literally crazy – I seriously wonder what got into them. If I hadn’t had been with them all day I would have thought they had been fed tons of sugar, possibly even caffeine.
Miles did not want to nap. Chloe didn’t want Miles to nap because she wanted to continue to dress him up in her clothes?!?!
So I convinced them at 1pm that it would be a really nice time to go running and relax. Within minutes both of them had fallen asleep. I rarely run with an ipod. I have never run with one while pushing them. Their safety is my number one priority. Even if I know it’s going to be a boring run alone while they sleep, I do it anyways because I want to be aware of my surroundings and not in a zone while they are with me. In an attempt to keep myself occupied I dreamed up all the different records/pr’s I could set with the stroller while on runs. The fastest double stroller mile, the longest double stroller long run, and so on.
I decided that day to attempt to run the longest I have ever run while pushing them. Normally I won’t run for more than an hour pushing them because they can get bored. I know I wouldn’t want to sit in a stroller with not much to do for over an hour so I just suck it up and run long whenever I have someone to help me watch them. When they fall asleep however, it’s free reign to run for as long as I want. My previous record was an 1:20 minutes – no idea how far I went that time but I was counting it as 8 miles. Yesterday I ran 10 miles pushing them in 1:28 minutes. I was tired when I finished but elated that I had set a new record and that they had actually stayed asleep for the whole run.

If you can’t get enough stroller running and want to read about the marathon stroller challenge then check out this article. Not sure how I feel about this. Are these kids really okay for that long in the stroller? I’ve been pushing mine since they were born and I know there is no amount of lollipops that I could give them to be happy for over 2 hours in the stroller. But hey if nothing else these dads serve as an example that kids are not an excuse not to work out! RUN HAPPY!
Do you push a running stroller while running? Do you think it’s helped you get stronger?
