I’m sure everyone is getting excited/nervous. Here are some helpful tips for race day.
- Bag check is inside the DC Armory. Feel free to come check your bags there and then stay inside to keep warm.
- The temperature is going to be warm. Wear less than you want to wear – I promise you won’t regret it. Most of us trained in cold temperatures. Our bodies are not acclimated to this weather yet.
- Metro is the suggested transportation for race day. National Marathon has ensured that Metro will open at 5 am on race day. If you choose to park Lot 7 at RFK will be open to runners and volunteers. Check online for road closures on race day.
- If you have run National Marathon or the 1/2 in the past, expect a different start location. It still starts next to the DC Armory but in a different spot closer to RFK.
- The Aid Stations and the Course Turn by Turn Documents can be found on the National Marathon website at www.nationalmarathon.com
- There are potholes on the course – National Marathon and DC have been doing their best to make sure as many of these potholes get filled before race day. However with the winter we have had, there are bound to be some. Watch your footing the entire race. This will be especially important for the full marathoners who will be tired on the back end of the course.
- The order at the Aid Station is GU first, Water second, and Poweraid last. I have done my best to make sure all Aid Stations have this info and will follow it.
- Aid Station #1 and #15 are the same Aid Station.
- While on Constitution Avenue you will be routed towards the left to make the small hairpin turn around. Make sure to stay out of the path of other runners.
- Aid Station #3 and #17 are the same Aid Station. On the 2nd time at it for the full marathoners the water will be on the right, however you will be making a sharp left turn onto 9th street. If you don’t want to loose time crossing over the road and then back again, make sure to carry your own water.
- The Aid/Water Stations will be bigger and better than in past years! Feel free to thank volunteers for giving up their Saturday morning to help make your race your best.
- There will be 6 cheer stations on the course! Free t-shirts will be handed out to the first 200 spectators at these spots. Be sure to tell your friends and family to go check them out.
- There are two relay exchange zones for the 1/2 marathon. These exchange zones will be set up on the right side of the road. For those of you running, steer clear of them by sticking to the left side of the road.
- Last but not least. Remember to believe in yourself. When you get tired, don’t tell anyone least of all yourself that you are running out of energy. Trick your mind into giving your body a PR!!!
