The holidays are approaching and that means finding the perfect gift for the runner in your life. I have always thought that books were a great gift. I love to read and I love owning personal copies of my favorites. While writing the post about back to back racing I went and pulled out my copy of Running With The Buffaloes. It was given to me by my best friend Claire after I ran my first 1/2 marathon (Manhattan Half).
I loved the message she wrote in the front so I’ll share.
First off, Congratulations on your first half marathon! You should be so proud of yourself for not only running great, but for even entering the race on your own accord; that is a real runner! More importantly, I just want to say how impressed and thrilled I am with the progress you have made. One of the greatest things about being a runner is watching someone embrace the sport and develop a passion for it. I have loved seeing you grow as a runner,(as dumb as it sounds) this past summer. Your work ethic and talent will take you far, and I know you are really going to surprise yourself in cross country. I’m so glad you loved this book, so I had to get you your own copy. Use it for inspiration on those days that make you appreciate the good ones even more. Every runner has tough times, dreads a workout, and even questions their abilities at times. You have made amazing progress! Keep working hard, stay healthy, sleep enough, and above all, “Have the Confidence to rest.” <3 Claire
Claire believed in me long before I ever believed in myself.
